Parents often ask us where to begin. Sainik Schools, the Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) and the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) all offer a disciplined, residential school life — but each has its own entrance and its own entry class.
Sainik School (AISSEE)
Sainik Schools are residential schools that combine school education with discipline, leadership and physical development. Admission is through the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE).
- Class 6 — the academy's eligibility guide lists an age band of 8–12 years
- Class 9 — 13–15 years
Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS)
RMS are residential schools under the Ministry of Defence, offering school education in a structured and disciplined environment. Admission is competitive.
- Class 6 — 8–12 years in the academy's guide
- Class 9 — 13–15 years
Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC)
RIMC is a residential institution under the Ministry of Defence, with a highly competitive selection process.
- Class 8 — 10–13 years in the academy's guide
Age bands here are a guide only. Exact age limits, dates and the exam pattern are set every year in the official admission notification for each examination — always confirm them there.
Choosing where to start
Because Sainik School and RMS share the same entry classes, the academic groundwork for the two overlaps. RIMC admits at Class 8, so it follows a different timeline.
